Kelham Island Brewery has come a long way since brewing the first pint of beer behind the Fat Cat in 1990. The brewery produces a range of specialist beers with a growing reputation for quality, often featuring in publications and also winning several awards, including the CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain (GOLD – Supreme Champion) for Pale Rider. Along with the original Fat Cat and the new Brewery located on Alma Street, there is now a shop and function room, which is available for party bookings.
The Tap & Tankard is the first pub opened by the brewery under the stewardship of Managing Director, Edward Wickett. Ed is developing the business based on all the success of his father Dave and the whole team has worked very hard to ensure a positive start to the new venture in December 2014.
With its’ location in the city centre, the Tap & Tankard provides lovers of good quality ales an opportunity to meet and enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional pub and to combine this with a visit to other amenities, including good shopping, clubs, the City Hall and the theatres.
